Few places come close to being called dependable fast food joints. Though there are enough and more international chains, Bengaluru certainly has a handful of homegrown brands that have made a mark in the culinary circuit. Cafe Imroze on Infantry Road joins this club of select joints. The cafe that opened just a month ago seems already popular going by the packed tables on a Monday afternoon, when we dropped by for lunch.
The menu, a three-fold card has options such as soups, salads, starters, burgers, pasta, waffles, sea-food, sandwiches, sides and beverages. Impressed by the cafe’s ‘burger’ logo, we decided to order the Country Fried Chicken Burger from their ‘Big Mouth Burgers’ section. The burger was served with fries, and a glass of Coke.
Marinated and deep-fried chicken with onions, leeks, celery and mayo made up the filling. We admit, it was a good start. The soft and fluffy bun in particular left us wanting more. From the salads section, we opted for the Greek Salad (Chicken). The combination of English cucumber, olives, bell pepper, lettuce, feta cheese with olive oil, dried herbs and Thousand Island dressing was in perfect harmony. Though we had our glass of Coke, we asked for a cold coffee and this classic drink too didn’t disappoint.
Cheesy business
What came next however, was a let down. The Spicy Barbeque Pizza (chicken) is a nine-inch serving — definitely not for solo diners or for those with a small appetite. The topping of soggy caramelized onions and mozzarella cheese made the pizza heavy and greasy.  But what we couldn’t ignore was the crisp pizza base that was baked in a brick oven. This turned out to be the saving grace.
For desserts, the cafe has quite a few options to choose from, such as cheesecakes, cup cakes and rainbow jars. We chose the Nutella Cheesecake and this was truly delightful. The crumbly Oreo cookie base was topped with a Nutella-rich cream cheese.
Cafe Imroze, though it has a few hits, still has a long way to go. They are yet to start serving waffles and seafood dishes. Perhaps the next time we visit, there will be more options to try.
