Movenpick opens first boutique store in India

Try the signature flavours, sundaes, desserts and more

Twenty two flavours straight from Rorschach served chilled for the unreluctant ice cream addicts in Bengaluru. Just the thought of tasting these 22, in particular the signature flavours — Swiss Chocolate, Espresso Croquant, Creme Brulee Espresso — lured us to Movenpick’s first boutique store in India. The launch reminded us of a birthday party. From middle-aged guests and children, to bloggers, everyone was walking around happily with their favourite flavour in hand. Host Tarun Sikka, director, Nectar Hospitality, who has brought the brand to India, along with MVM Rao, Consultant, South Asia, Movenpick, was behind the counter ensuring everyone got a scoop of the flavour of their choice.

Caffeine high
We tried five of their signature offerings — Ice Coffee sundae, the Single Platter, Apple Pie with Ice Cream, Maple Walnut Indulgence and a Chocolate Fondant. The Ice Coffee is like multiple shots of coffee. The two scoops of Espresso Croquant ice cream, topped with coffee sauce biscuit and whipped cream garnished with a wafer, is visually quite appealing. But when the ice cream made with real espresso hit our palate, we were truly impressed. This one is for coffee addicts.
The Single Platter includes an ice cream sandwich, a tiny waffle cone and a waffle basket with a scoop of ice cream. The sandwich, as expected is  tricky to eat but Mr Rao reveals that they are working on it. From the three scoops that one can opt for in the platter, we highly recommend the Lemon & Lime flavour, for its fresh-citrus notes.

Sugar rush
The Apple Pie with Ice Cream, a classic combination was spot on. The warmth of the strong cinnamon notes in the pie paired well with the cool Vanilla Dream scoop. This one is recommended for those who stay away from experimenting with new flavours. The Maple Walnut Indulgence is a combination of freshly made pancakes drizzled with Canadian maple syrup, served with a Caramelita scoop or a flavour of your choice. What really impressed is the fact that the pancakes were fluffy and well complemented by the ice cream.
The Chocolate Fondant is made with 70 per cent cocoa and the bitterness was a welcome break from all the sweetness. Paired with a scoop of Raspberry Strawberry ice cream, it proved to be a cracker of a dish. The boutique also offers other popular flavours, such as, Panna Cotta and Blueberry Cheesecake, so one visit is not enough if you are a true ice cream addict.
