South Bengaluru is witnessing a spurt in the number of pubs that have opened in recent times. 55 Wall Street is the newest entrant to jump on the bandwagon. Located on the Outer Ring Road, at a location that was predominantly a residential spot till late, 55 Wall Street offers something new to foodies. In addition, as the name suggests there are some unique trading schemes for pub regulars, where one can book drinks at highly discounted prices.

When we dropped by on a weekday evening, we were quite surprised to see a fairly packed pub not just with office-goers but even families and children. After the tour of the place, we started with the tasting. From the mocktails we opted for the Xavi Basil Pina - pineapple juice stirred with tangy lime and basil. While there was no trace of basil, the tanginess of lime with the flavour of pineapple worked well. But it was the salted rim of the glass that helped in cutting down the extreme sweetness.

Something corny
Food menu includes Indian, Chinese, Continental and Italian - essentially multi-cuisine options. We opted to try their signature dishes and started with the Corn Chops with Garlic Aioli. It was impressive considering how well the corn kernels were mashed with potatoes, mixed with jalapenos, coriander and herbs to make lollipop sort of balls that were deep fried and coated with bread crumbs. The garlic aioli was the perfect accompaniment to this crisp starter. Next we tried the highly recommended Dahi Kebabs, another signature dish. The hung curd patties with red and green chillies was a tad bit spicy for us, otherwise this it was worth every. All the spicey flavours work like magic with the slightly sweet curd. The Achari Fish Tikka was next. Boneless, succulent pieces of fish grilled to perfection - that's how we would like to describe this. The smokiness adds to the red chilli flavour of the tikka. For vegetarians, a must-try is the Paneer Paratwala. It's a paneer tikka sandwich with an unusual filling of spices with a nutty hint. From the other dishes we tried, we recommend the Stuffed Mushrooms. The addition of green chilli paste while the mushrooms are being grilled, brings out the best of flavours. From the pizzas, the Garlic Lovers pizza was served. The thin-crust base is made in-house, we are told - certainly quite impressive. The cheese, bell peppers, onion and garlic flakes topping seemed like the perfect combination. You could also request for a 50-50 combination where half your pizza can be non-vegetarian with chunks of chicken added to it.

Chocolate dreams
From their desserts we truly loved the chocolate bomb. A vanilla ice cream filled chocolate ball, that's served with a hot chocolate sauce. The sauce is poured over just when the dessert is served, so eat it immediately before the sauce freezes. The warm, gooey sauce and the outer chocolate shell with vanilla ice cream is just heavenly. So don't miss trying this. Overall, 55 Wall Street is a good place to dine and to hang out with your friends for a drink. If you are a regular, do opt for the membership to get both alcohol and food at discounted prices.
