The 100-year-old milkshake brand, Keventers is finally open in the city, and it’s not a surprise to see the tiny kiosk buzzing with customers even on a Monday afternoon.
I’m ushered into the food court at Inorbit Mall by the store manager, Ravi Guntan, who gives me a brief about the brand. “Though we have a long history, the brand was revived in 2015 and a couple of years later, was expanded across cities in South India,” he explains. I spot the kiosk among other food brands, thanks to their bright hoarding in bold yellow. The 10-day-old outlet is vintage-themed with black and white framed photos, a typewriter and candlestick telephones arranged in open wooden shelves. On the other end, their trademark milk glass bottles with a customised Charminar sketch are stocked up. Apart from the signage that says ‘You can take the glass bottle home’, what makes me grin are the balloons stocked up outside the store, because shakes and ballons are what childhood memories are made of!
The menu is simple with three sections – thick shakes, fruity shakes and classic shakes. With a host of 21 flavours in total, the list includes quirky ones like Mint Oreo Crumble and Luscious Blueberry. In no time, my shakes arrive. The Bubblegum shake is a mixture of strawberries, bubblegum syrup, milk and ice cream but the taste that lingers on is that of the bubblegum.
For a chocolate lover like me, the Kit Kat shake definitely hits the spot. There are no floating bits of cream and the shake is thick with tiny pieces of Kit Kat thrown in. Among the others, I’d recommend the classic Chocolate Oreo shake and Melting Rose.
