Middle Eastern bites, bakery classics and more at Sly Granny’s breakfast menu

Expect mini cinnamon pancakes, creme brulee donuts and a host of other decadent bites

Lazy weekends are for lie-ins and lingering indulgent breakfasts. But often, you can’t have both as you’d be hard pressed to find cafes and diners serving morning meals past 11 am, besides the idli-vada and dosa joints, of course. Sly Granny, however, vows to change all that with its new breakfast menu that is  available until lunch time.

A particularly uneventful Saturday found us at the restau-rant, sitting down to a breakfast of much more than eggs and bacon and the aforementioned South Indian staples, a menu of truly experimental dishes yet with a generous dash of familiar flavours.

Greek notes
Chef Varun Pereira brings in some Middle Eastern flavours with the Eggs and Yoghurt, which was served to us first. Crispy fried eggs paired with labeneh or Greek yogurt, extra virgin olive, and dill leaves, this was a lip smacking dish of simple flavours.

For something right out of Bengaluru’s traditional bakeries, ask for the Keema Rolls. Fluffy and warm, these buns, which are made to order, are sprinkled with spiced mutton keema. Biting into it was like a comforting hug but we would have liked it better with a little bit more minced meat.
Crispy, crunchy, tangy and oozy all at once, the Fried Chicken Bun features chicken fried South Caro-lina style doused with hot sauce and served with homemade pickled okra and cucumber.

Sugar high
If you’re not counting calories, we suggest you venture into the sinful ‘Sweet Ones’ section — breakfast desserts that are hard to pass up. On top of our list of must-haves are the Cinnamon Pancakes. The mini pancakes, made in a paddu griddle, are flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla and served with a drizzle of caramel and maple syrup, powdered sugar and whipped cream. The Creme Brulee Donut, sugar dusted donut filled with thick and velvety creme brulee, is also an utter treat.

While Bengaluru’s breakfast offerings are on point, this one, a departure from the English Breakfasts and American waffles, scores extra points for innovation, bold flavours and bringing something unusual to the table, quite literally.
