This Kochi-based cafe offers over 34 varieties of India’s favourite brew

High tea is a British Raj concept that has ingrained itself in India’s culinary traditions. But, we’ve replaced fruit scones and tea powder with karak chai and samosas. To tap into this market and convert it into an upscale-yet-affordable model, Dubai-based brand Tea Junction has opened its very first outlet in Kerala. While Kochi isn’t new to such boutiques—thanks to Tea Pot, Red Tea, and Tea O’ Clock amongst others—this Chittoor Road venue hopes to offer something unique to the discerning connoisseur.

Going nuts
Located on YMCA junction—atop one of the largest dry fruits and nuts outlets in the state—this 56-cover space literally takes the phrase ‘Flower Power’ to new heights. Don’t believe us? Sample a pot of their aromatic jasmine bud/rose bud tea, and see for yourself.

“For most Indians, tea is the ideal elixir for a perfect start and end to the day. Regardless of whether you plan to quickly step-in, grab a bite, and leave, or unwind with great conversation over a hot cuppa—Tea Junction is the place for you,” shares Sujit Alexander, the regional manager of the AMS group. Before trying the Tea Junction signatures like a piping hot cup of Kashmiri tea, we encourage you to sample a few of the 40 variants of dates and 50 unique dried fruits/nuts on offer downstairs.

Few quick-eats I would recommend from chef Iiver Monsurate’s menu include their humongous chilli cheese/broccoli-mushroom omelettes and delicious grilled chicken doused in saffron sauce. While their affordable spread—nothing on the menu is priced over `150—will ensure a lot of footfall once Shenoy Theatre reopens, their extremely low roof may dishearten claustrophobic or tall patrons.
