The Varma brothers, Arun and Krishna, from Bengaluru, had brainstormed an idea of fast food that would make its way through the traffic and narrow lanes of any city. A convenient and compact tawa, BBQ pit, umbrella and storage all tucked into a Sholay-like sidecar of a rugged Royal Enfield bike. With barbequed meats and vegetables as grills, burgers and wraps, the BBQ Ride India serves a sizzling menu (more details below). Nivedha S, master franchisee in Coimbatore , admits that she trusted her debut in the food industry with a venture that was spreading like wildfire, starting in Peelamedu.

Grilled and Exotic
Find on the grill—a visual treat of chicken as drumsticks, strips, patties and wings or paneer, mushroom, baby corn, capsicum and pineapple being used in an assortment of dishes. Mixing up the menu once a while, Nivedha says, “We get a mixed crowd who have shown a liking to everything on the menu and are open to experimenting. We are making notes of all the crowd favourites, like the wraps.” Admittedly, the paneer wrap is delicious with its sweet mayo-filling, coleslaw of lettuce and carrot shreds, soft cubes of lightly grilled paneer, neatly wrapped in pita bread. The chicken variant is soft and an assortment of masalas that are not spicy but full of flavour from salty and sweet to hot and smoky. With grated cabbage and carrots, these strips were topped with garlic sauce, against their homemade vegan mayonnaise or the spicy sauce options. The most exotic experience on this roadside eat-out is surely the quadrants of pineapple slices that are grilled out from their natural sweetness to a warm salty and masala induced taste.

Long road ahead
As enquiries rush for more franchises, the first woman BBQ ride franchisee owner feels that two more bikes in Saravampatti and Brookebond would do well to satisfy the curiosity of all the food-lovers in the city. After understanding the flavour preferences in the city, Nivedha and her three member team look
to centralise masalas and tastes across all their franchise, with an emphasis on localised seasoning. Prawns, fish and quail might be soon added to this food bike’s menu.

Combo priced at Rs 200
