Well known for its quick eats and handcrafted pan pizzas, this four-year café has kept its culinary edge through experimenting consistently throughout its journey. Onto its fourth branch in Saravanampatti this month end, with a fifth in Vadavalli still in talks, owner Arun Kumar is all praise for his team consisting of Aravind Subramaniam, head of marketing and expansion and 15 others.  “Zucca isn’t just about pizza. Customers will pick what goes into the new April menu by giving us feedback about everything from starters to desserts, with one week specially meant for vegans. We are separately billing the code for ‘pay as you wish’ offer that gives us a clear insight into price elasticity," shares Arun.

Breads and bakes

The new menu will combine new variants like minestrone with their famed soups like the cream of mushroom. Glistening with olive oil, this is a thick soup with hints of cashew and a fresh essence of oregano. As a part of their eight-course breakfast meal, we try their healthy sandwich made from whole wheat panini bread that couples sweet and saucy beans with a folded omelette and some crunchy lettuce.

Bringing his own recipe to a near match of the authentic US-styled Buffalo wings, Arun personally adds a pinch of sugar to his recipe for perfectly spiced wings that are coated with crunchy crumbs. Shifting towards a healthier palate, a menu range for the vegans include Nutty Professor — a mildly flavoured pesto topped pizza with walnuts and broccoli that are high in protein. If you wish to try some fusion items, try the nachos platter that blends Mexican cuisine in a dessert style with dark chocolate dipped masala tacos and baskets of fried momos with a sweet, sour and tangy salsa of pineapples and tomatoes.

Perfect to the tea

Zucca has also introduced an extensive range of drinks. Craft teas now retail at their stores and are a premium range of 20 classic and 15 new strong flavoured white, green and black teas. Soon to open is an outlet in the city just for its brand of smoothies called Shake it Up. We pick the exotic passion fruit smoothie from their ‘pay as you wish’ menu that twists a hint of ginger with sour orange zest and sweet goodness of ice-cream and a soft cake-like blondie.

Opening up their menu online the Zucca ordering app is soon to see light as this eatery rebrands from pizzeria to café and restaurant.

Eat as you pay offer is valid in R S Puram and Peelamedu until April 5.
