All the dishes have a local twist

Now that Church Street is back in its new avatar it’s time to revisit some of your old haunts. Conveniently, Blue Frog has just launched a new menu and we picked a Monday afternoon to pay a visit. Sitting in their outdoor area, and listening to some Dave Brubeck, we took in the pleasing sights of the revamped street.

We started our unhurried lunch with French fries. All their new dishes have an Indian element to them and this one was called Spicy Paneer & Cheese. The fries are loaded with paneer, melted cheese and a spicy sauce, a great accompaniment to a crisp beer. Next on the table were the Tandoori Mushrooms — focaccia stuffed mushroom served with Tabasco onions and mint chutney. The charred mushrooms were very moreish. Some of the other new appetisers are Mixed Sprout and Peanut Falafel served with pita, hummus and beetroot pickle, Spicy Corn and Cheese Parcels, Achari Fish Tikka and Mutton Three Cheese Kebab.
From their burgers and sandwich section, they have options such as Malai Chicken Sandwich and Pulled Tikka Sliders, their version of chicken tikka in mini buns.

But we opted for the Crumb Fried Vegetable Burger as we wanted something lighter. The patty was fried to perfection and the spicy mayo served with it added just the right flavour. The menu also boasts Naanzas — a pizza on a naan base, an interesting mix of Indian and Italian cusines. Although we are usually not a fan of fusion, we ordered the Jalfrezi Naanza and were pleasantly surprised. The naan was topped with peppers, onions and mushrooms with a traditional Jalfrezi sauce and garnished with coriander. The naan base adds that familiarity to the dish and the Indian flavours gel well with this Italian classic. If you have a hankering for an even more familiar flavour, try the Magic Masala Sauce Pasta, which uses a masala similar to that of Maggi. While we chose to pass on dessert, you can try the Lemon Cheesecake served with apple slaw, Homemade Rocky Road Ice Cream or the Dates and Caramel Pudding.
