Sportwalk Huddle: A new community for folks who love their sports
While fan discussions on league standings, star players and game highlights have majorly moved to the digital space, let’s not assume that sports lovers across the world have forgotten the potential of fan clubs and communities where face to face interaction is involved. Aimed at building a community through meet-ups,Sportwalk Huddle brings lovers of sports together.
The venture is an initiative by 23-year-old Divakar KS, co-founder of the two-year-old company Sportwalk, which plans events and handles merchandise as well. “We have a number of film and book clubs, but very few sports communities where sports lovers can meet up, interact and share knowledge.
"In a city like Chennai, where a whole lot of us are connected to each other by a common love for sports, the need for an initiative like this is even greater,” says Divakar, who co-runs the company with friend, Adheedhan R.
Kick-started last week, the Huddle saw over 25 people participate. With a different theme every month (say the return of the Chennai Super Kings or the FIFA World Cup) the meet-ups will also screen sports documentaries, conduct quizzes and contests, apart from interactions and Q & A sessions for fans with professional players and sports writers. “The aim is to build a community that celebrates sports,” shares Divakar. Also in the pipeline are plans to team up with fan clubs and sports teams across the country.
The next huddle will be held on November 26. Details: sportwalk.co
