Ask the rum lovers around you for their favorite brand and undoubtedly you will hear the majority shouting out the name of the mighty Old Monk. Well, its a sad day for all the Old Monk fans out there as the man behind one of the best selling rum in India, Brigadier (retd.) Kapil Mohan, former Chairman and MD of Mohan Meakin Ltd, passed away due to cardiac arrest. He was 88. He was at his home in Ghaziabad at the time of his death.
Kapil Mohan launched Old Monk back in 1954. The company that has its origins in Kasauli, soon developed three distilleries, two breweries and a host of new franchises in India and reached stellar heights in no time. After attaining immense popularity in and around India, currently the company Mohan Meakin Ltd is a multi-faceted business house with a turnover of more than Rs 400 crore.
Rum lovers and many of his admirers, took to Social Media to pay their tributes to Mohan. Many have posted pictures of Old Monk to pay tribute to the man.
