One way to tackle the issue is to keep the right plants in your bedroom that help increase the quality of your sleep. Here's a list of five easy-to-maintain plants that will help you catch a good night's sleep.

Jasmine

Jasmine is a common plant that’s well known for its tiny flowers, usually seen in shades of white or yellow. Found commonly in forests, valleys, and ravines, its distinct fragrance is usually used in perfumes and essential oils. Jasmine plants, known to lower anxiety will help lull you to deeper, more restful sleep. Keeping a jasmine plant in your bedroom at night will contribute to increased alertness and productivity during the day. To care for indoor Jasmine plants, it’s best to let them get direct sunlight during summer and spring.

Lavender

Lavender is a low maintenance plant with a sophisticated purple colour and emits a pleasant fragrance. Commonly known for its relaxant properties, it helps people who suffer from insomnia, restlessness and similar conditions by slowing down heart rate and lower blood pressure and stress levels. Lavender is extremely easy to maintain once they’re up and running because they do well without water. The fragrance and flower will grow best under dry conditions, so make sure not to saturate them.

Snake Plant

This Snake plant,  also known as ‘Mother-in-Law’s Tongue’, produces tall, stiff green leaves with a trim of yellow running along the outside. They emit oxygen at night, improving the air around you so that you sleep better. Packed with properties that improve the quality of the air which makes it one of the best houseplants, it helps remove toxins from the air specifically formaldehyde (found in hairsprays) that can cause respiratory problems. To care for this plant that is also relatively cheap, place it in an area that receives indirect sunlight and water it sparingly.

Peace Lily

Peace Lilies that come with beautiful white flowers can also increase room humidity, which according to studies, is great for breathing while asleep. Rated as one of the best indoor plants to remove air pollution by NASA,  the plant is excellent at cleansing air, as they breakdown and neutralize harmful gases that are floating around the house. Peace Lily grows depending on the amount of light it’s subjected to. Water it when the soil is dry or wait for the plant to start drooping, an easy indicator to tell whether it’s thirsty or not.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera produces oxygen at night improving the air in your bedroom.  The spiky, cactus-like plant contains multiple vitamins and minerals that aid the overall health of the body. The plant also known as a ‘succulent’ – it needs very little watering as it maintains moisture within its leaves. The gel from these leaves can be used to treat minor cuts and burns, insect bites and dry skin making it a great plant to have around the house. Keep your Aloe Vera plant in a sunny place to ensure it stays healthy. The two main reasons why Aloe Vera plants die are-either they get watered too often, or they don’t have room for the water to drain from the soil.
