Udisha

The Premier League 2026/27 season has officially introduced some rules this year, taking cue from the FIFA World Cup 2026. While some new laws like the hydration break and red card for players covering their mouth won't be implemented, these are the changes you will see.

Injured players who go off

Players who are injured and receive treatment, have to leave the pitch for at least one minute after restart of the game. Previously, players had to stay off the pitch for only 30 seconds.

Goalkeeper tactical timeouts

A trial will be in place this season where, if play is stopped due to an injury to a goalkeeper, the head coach has to choose an outfield player to leave the pitch instead, for at least a minute after play restarts.

Delays of throw-ins and goal-kicks

For throw-ins and goal-kicks, a five-second countdown will be in place. If there is a delay, the throw-in will go to the other team and the goal kick will be cancelled, resulting in a corner kick for the opponent.Time limits for substitutions

Time limits for substitutions

When a player is substituted, they must leave the pitch within 10 seconds. If they fail to follow the town, the substituted player will have to wait for the game to pause to be able to enter.

VAR for second yellows

VAR can now review on-field decisions if needed, for second yellow cards that result in a red. If the referee's decision is found to be wrong, it can be overturned.
