Marazzo looks great and has the potential to give its competition a run for their money.

Marazzo

Marazzo means ‘shark’ in Basque, and this Indian manufacturer wants to gain a slice of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) pie with its new automobile named so. It is the latest entrant in the MPV space and is set to go up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga as its prime competitor.

Global collaboration
The Marazzo stands as a testimony to the brand’s advanced capabilities in vehicle design, engineering, and manufacturing as it is a result of a collaboration between multiple business units owned by the company, which includes Mahindra, Mahindra North American Technical Centre, Mahindra Research Valley, Pininfarina, and Mahindra Design Centre. The end result of this multi-faceted collaboration is a vehicle that boasts of an international level of fit and finish and has strikingly good-looking proportions.

Built tough
The brand hasn’t let go of their body-on-frame heritage. Instead, they have pushed the boundaries of engineering and have come up with patented a body-on-frame front wheel drive architecture that has never been used before, and while it was a challenge to implement, the end result is a vehicle that enjoys the best of both worlds; a solid combination of strength and durability with the lightness and ease that a front wheel drive provides.

Efficient powertrain
Powering the vehicle is a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre diesel engine that is extremely refined and is capable of generating 121 bhp of power at 3,500 rpm and 300 Nm of maximum torque between 1,750-2,500 rpm. It is mated to a six-speed manual and this vehicle feels unlike anything that has carried the Mahindra badge before! The carmaker claims an efficiency of 17.3 kilometres to the litre.

Stylish and safe
The cabin is well crafted, and its fit and finish is commendable. Add to that, they’ve done a pretty good job in terms of carving out enough space for about eight passengers on board. You also get a surround cool tech system for the rear two rows and the Marazzo comes with plush leatherette seats, a touchscreen infotainment system and a decent sound system. Safety features include disc brakes on all four wheels, two airbags as standard on all models, ABS, impact sensitive doors, a high strength steel structure and side impact beams. The M6 and M8 variants also get a rear parking camera and parking sensors.

Verdict
The Mahindra Marazzo looks great and is a refined product that has the potential to give its competition a run for their money. And to top it off, it has been priced rather well with the range starting at `9.99 lakh and the top-end model set to retail at `13.9 lakh.
