A stand-up comedian who is witty and articulate with his jokes, and just as eloquent when working on his mental health project — we’re talking about Atul Khatri! The Mumbai-based artiste entered the comedy scene in his 40s after a successful career in business but took hardly any time to create his own set of fans and brand of humour. Atul, however, believes that his timing was perfect. “I have been fortunate that I entered the line when it was just starting and have received a lot of love from fans and fellow comedians. It truly is one of the best decisions of my life — to give up my corporate life and pursue my passion,” he says.

Although Atul comes from a business background, his clean comedy and conversational delivery are what strikes a chord with his fans. It’s the same genre of comedy that has taken him across the world including performances at Hong Kong International Comedy Festival and Dubai International Comedy Festival.
Known for his sharp thoughts and relatable jokes, Atul will be performing in the city as a part of Black Dog Easy Evenings, this weekend. Unlike his previous shows, this one, he says, is absolutely new. “As a comedian, you try to always better your previous sets and I think I have achieved that. I love this new set. Honestly, I love the Hyderabad crowd too. Whenever I have performed in the city, the audience has been warm and comes out to have fun,” he shares.

Apart from his comedy, Atul has also been an advocate of mental health. Last year, he started a project with his sister and psychiatrist Dr Anjali Chhabria to create awareness. “This is a project very close to my heart. I teamed up with my sister and we created a property called The Shrink and the Nut, where both of us go on stage and try to spread awareness about mental health among school and college kids. We want to create warriors so that they can identify signs of mental health early on and use timely help. Last year, we addressed close to 25,000 students,” he informs.

Atul is busy prepping for a Comedy Festival in Australia in November. “I am touring this new set throughout India with Black Dog Easy Evenings. In 2020, I plan a Europe and USA tour,” he says.
