THE NUCLEUS OF art is shifting from the central part of the city, and a new address at Anandapur is all set to host a three-day extravaganza that promises a mélange of talent — fresh and established. Art Fair at Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC) kicks off today showcasing around 1,000 artwork by around 350 artists across India.

At the helm is Richa Agarwal, CEO of Emami Art and Executive Director of KCC. Giving us some insights on the debut fair, an excited Agarwal says, “It’s effectively the first Art Fair for KCC though we have done it earlier in our centre a couple of years back.” The 30-something art enthusiast interestingly started as a commerce student before she became immersed in the world of art, thanks to a project in her company that exposed her to different artists, art galleries and more.

Talking about the draw of the festival, she adds, “Art fairs are quite exciting because you tend to get small format works at very reasonable prices. At KCC, we are constantly talking about promoting art and especially young artists.” In that direction, they have coordinated with colleges and got some of their students to share their works. “So, on one level we have senior artistes from Bengal and then on the other, we have a whole lot of mid-career artists whom we have selected and these fresh talents from colleges who have been recommended by their HODs,” explains Agarwal.

One can expect students from the outskirts as well, like Kalyani and Santiniketan. The list of senior artists who are participating in the event includes Jogen Chowdhury, Ganesh Haloi, Shuvaprasanna, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Sipra Bhattacharya and Niranjan Pradhan from Beng al, Manu Parekh, Dashrath Patel from Gujar at, and many more . Interactive events, talks, musical sessions and even live paintings will enliven the festival. Talking about the live painting session, Agarwal, who believes art happened to her by default says, “The live painting sessions are going to give a residency kind of concept to art enthusiasts. Sometimes people don’t realise the amount of time and effort that goes in making a piece of art. It adds to th e ‘feel factor’.”
