Musication, a city-based band was allegedly attacked on August 2, Friday, at Phoenix Marketcity Bengaluru. A member of the band was approached by an inebriated man after their gig and asked to sing a song in Kannada. Even though the band obliged, and sang a Kannada song, the man was not happy and picked up the mic stand and attacked the members. After that, a group of men attacked the whole band and smashed the phone of one of them who was trying to record a video on his phone. This comes after a similar incident took place at Foxtrot a few weeks ago, where the Malayalam hip-hop act Street Academics was forced off stage for not singing in Kannada, raising questions about the open-mindedness of the music culture of the city.

A spokesperson from Phoenix Marketcity had this to say: "The Phoenix Marketcity Bengaluru would like to address the unforeseen incident that took place on Friday, August 2 2019. This happened between two parties. However, this was an altercation between two individuals post event, our potent security guards took prompt actions and managed to get the appalling situation under control. At Phoenix Marketcity we take utmost care and ensure the safety and security of our visitors, local, national and international artistes performing at our premises. Phoenix Marketcity is a destination of repute for events and performances, and provides a platform and audience to artists ranging from aspiring bands to legendary performers in a safe and secure environment.
