Ed Sheeran has been in the news lately for pulling off the seemingly impossible task of collaborating with the industry’s top pop artists to release his latest 15-track album - No.6 Collaborations Project, and it’s finally here.

The album audio tracks were released on YouTube, timestamped to July 11, 2019, and as promised, has over 20 artists and a delightful genre mix with a surprising twist to many. Blow, the track with funk, R&B singer Bruno Mars and country singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton, is a modern rock song. Yes, the world-renowned pop singer just released a rock tune in his latest album that is lined with unconventional genre types.

Perhaps, the most traditional Ed-like song in the list is Best Part of Me featuring Arkansas-based Yebba. The buttery vocals of the duo add a sense of serenity and romance, taking the listener right back to the likes of his Divide album.

Apart from pop singers lining up the playlist, British rapper Stormzy, electronic music legend Skrillex, and hip-hop artist Cardi B are some others who made their way into the collaboration.

Ed Sheeran also managed to rope in upcoming, young talent like H.E.R. and Khalid, once again setting a new precedent in the industry. In addition to these artists, there are the tried and tested linkups, like Eminem and 50 cent on Remember the Name (where Ed is surprisingly bold), and the millennial-favourite Justin Bieber duet I Don’t Care. And the final picks in his playlist are Camila Cabello, Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock, Travis Scott, Young Thug and J Hus, Paulo Londra and Dave, and Meek Mill and Boogie wit da Hoodie.

While this is not the first of Ed’s groundbreaking collaborations (remember Rudimental, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift?), this album definitely breaks the conventional boundaries set by veteran pop artists. And if we had to absolutely find fault with Ed, we’d point at his failure to include Billie Eilish in this album.
