Hafthor Julius Bjornsson is not just hanging on Game of Thrones to bring him the popularity for his role as The Mountain. Known for his massive 6ft 9in figure, Hafthor has won the title of Europe's Strongest Man 2019 in Leeds, England—the fifth time in a row! The 30-year-old is not short on titles with World’s Strongest Man 2018 and Iceland's Strongest Man (8 times) to his name.
The strongman announced his recent victory on Instagram with a message:
“Europe’s Strongest Man for the 5th time! So blessed to have such great people behind me! Team Iceland baby.
Huge thank you to all my family, my beautiful wife and all my friends for all the help and support!!”
Facing 12 opponents in finals, Hafthor outdid them all, with 10 reps of 770 lbs (350 kg) axle deadlift. The competition also involved other demanding tasks like a log lift challenge, a tyre flip and anchor drag, an Atlas stone lift, and the pillars of Hercules.
Poland’s Mateusz Kieleszkowski was announced the runner-up and Georgia's Konstantine Janashia came in third. The event is a qualifier for the World’s Strongest Man contest, which will be held in Bradenton, Florida June 13 to 16.
