Meet Hazen Audel, a teacher turned survivalist, who's now one of the world's most celebrated adventure junkies 

An adventure junkie and TV presenter, Hazen Audel has been taking up survival battles in National Geographic’s much-acclaimed series, Primal Survivor.

With the virtue of losing himself in some of the most unforgiving places on our planet, he has learned to survive on whatever he can find. 

Inspired by David Attenborough, Hazen has embarked on an unremitting journey to bring the intricacies of the natural world into our homes through this series.

With a desire to explore, innovate and enlighten, Primal Survival has admirably documented his adventures living with and working alongside indigenous people in remote regions of the world. 

Hazen is always up for a challenge and has spent the past 20 years embracing life with indigenous groups and navigating extreme terrains.

With Hazen’s love of nature and passion for anthropology, he has become a leading expedition specialist who loves sharing his knowledge and skills as a survival instructor, jungle guide and high school biology teacher.

Throughout his career, he has learned skills in mountaineering, scuba diving and river rafting.

The extreme survivor has taught ‘art’ in schools
Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, Hazen is a Kootenai and Salish Native American and Greek by descent. His childhood fascination with bugs and snakes outgrew as he became a biologist.

Hazen has formally taught the subjects of Biology and Art as a high school teacher for 11 years! Prior to his experience as a teacher, he has been a jungle guide for a considerable time period as well.

His first expedition has been wilder than you expect
After selling mowed lawns and with a teapot full of money, he got $680 for a plane ticket and had about $60 leftover when he thought he’d get a big bag of rice and live off that for a couple of weeks and then come home.

He landed in Ecuador and made the journey to the rainforest for his first-ever expedition out in wild, naively setting up camp on the side of a remote river. 

He can camouflage himself in almost all cultures

From surviving in nailbiting -40 degree in Northern Scandinavia to melting in 110-degree heat in the Sahara Desert, Hazen has been to hair-raising places around the globe, befriending people through the way.

When not meeting his basic needs by building food traps or finding shelter, Hazen Audel experiences the rare – and in some cases, dangerous – beauty of the environment where incredible endurance and tenacity are required to survive.

In Papua New Guinea, he has hunted for crocodile eggs as a welcome gift for a local tribe. In the far reaches of Norway, he has crossed a frozen lake, as he led a herd of 200 reindeers.

He continued to do the unthinkable in the Western Pacific Coral Islands where he has attempted spear-fishing while trying to find direction in open water.
