Ahead of Thackeray’s release, Amitabh Bachchan reveals how Bal Thackeray saved his life

Amitabh spoke about the time when Bal Thackeray helped him with an ambulance after his injury during the filming of Coolie.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been in the industry for the longest time and he has made many friends over the years. Recently, the Thugs Of Hindostan actor was asked to say a few words at the teaser launch of Thackeray, which releases this week and he shared a very interesting story about the friendship with Bal Thackeray over the years, before his demise in 2012. 

Amitabh said that he shared a special bond with the Indian political leader because he was always there for him and stoody by his side in times of difficulty and even saved his life once. The actor said that after he went into a critical state on the sets of Coolie, he was rushed to Mumbai and the weather wasn’t on his side so the ambulance couldn’t reach him, however, Bal Thackeray came to the rescue and a Shiv Sena ambulance picked him and reached him to the hospital. Popularly known for his Angry Young Man image, Amitabh said that if Balasaheb didn’t help him, he would not have been alive today. 

Nawazuddin Siddique-starrer Thackeray has been directed by Abhijit Panse and is set to release on January 25. The film, has been surrounded in controversy, ever since the trailer release in Hindi and Marathi, without any subtitles. Actor Siddharth criticised the makers for spreading hate speech against South Indians and said it is poetic justice that a Muslim man from Uttar Pradesh is playing the role of a Marathi bigot in the film, while referring to Nawazuddin.
