A collage of four heart-rending stories in a 13-minute short film -- that's Mirage for you by debutant director Debjoy Mallick.

Shot in three days comprising actors Aparajita Auddy, Bharat Kaul, Pratyusha Paul, Mishmee Das, Arunava Dutta, Suvajit Kar, Payel Dutta and Tapas Chakraborty among others, each story tries to capture a fraction of a core emotion.

The first story is about a girl, who has everything she wants but nothing that actually she needs. Much like most of the young and aspiring around, she is someone lost in the abyss of over-achievement and over-compensation.

The second tale is about a teacher and her relationship with her mask. Here, the filmmaker has tried to make the audience face reality through magic realism.

The third story is designed by fate and quite literally so and the fourth one is a tale of vanity in rhetoric with the audience witnessing the flip side of all kind of dreams We see flip sides of dreams, any kind of dreams.

Mallik has woven each story with surrealism and the entire content is introspective, leaving the audience with an afterthought.

"The idea of the film was first conceived four years ago. Certain societal crises hit us hard like a gush of sudden wind and as I have made the film four years later, reflecting those crises, I realise that they still remain the same -- unresolved," tells Mallick.

The shooting of the film is over and Mirage will now travel to various film festivals across the world before it's formal release.
