Ahead of Doctor Sleep release, here are five must-watch Mike Flanagan movies

If you are a horror movie fanatic and haven't discovered Mike Flanagan yet, sorry, we are in short of words to explain what you are missing out on. The American filmmaker, a long time fan of Stephen King steadily made a name for himself in the world of horror with his movies such as Gerald's Game, Oculus and Hush; so much so that King himself praised Flanagan's work, calling it 'a work of genius.'

Having written, directed and edited some of the best horror flicks to come out in the last three years, Flanagan's lastest is the much-awaited sequel to cult favourite, The Shining. Ahead of the release of Doctor Sleep - based on the novel of the same name, by Stephen King, we list five of our favourite Flanagan movies that will have you floored.

Oculus (2013)
The psychological horror film written, edited, and directed by Mike Flanagan is based on his short film Oculus: Chapter 3 – The Man with the Plan. Starring Karen Gillan, Brenton Thwaites and Annalise Basso, the movie, told in parallel flashbacks, revolves around a young woman who is convinced that an antique mirror is responsible for the death and misfortune that her family suffered.

Before I wake (2016)
The dark fantasy horror film directed and edited by Flanagan is about a couple who adopt a kid from an orphanage, soon to realise that the kid dreams about things that are yet to happen. Starring Kate Boswoth, Thomas Jane and Jacob Tremblay, the film is a must-watch!

Ouija: Originof Evil (2016)
A widow and her two daughters use an Ouija board to help people move on with life. They interact with a spirit but are unaware of the fact that it has possessed Doris, the youngest daughter. The film is a prequel to the 2014 film Ouija and stars Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, and Henry Thomas.

Gerald's game (2017)
A woman accidentally kills her husband during a kinky game they play in an isolated house during a holiday. Handcuffed to her bed with no hope of rescue, she begins hearing voices and seeing strange visions. The psychological drama is based in Stephen King's 1992 novel of the same title, long thought to be unfilmable.

The Haunting of the Hillhouse (2018)
The horror drama based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel of the same name, is a 10-part series that follows five siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house. Now adults, they are forced back together in the face of tragedy and must finally confront the ghosts of their past. Some of those ghosts still lurk in their minds, while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House.  A second season with a different story and characters titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, based on the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, is set to be released in 2020.
