It has been a sports heavy week for me, immersed in the Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League, spending time with some of our state’s most talented youngsters. Not only was I amazed at the level at which they were competing, but also got to learn more than a thing or two. The finals saw performances set to the tournament anthem, after which the match began, in the presence of TNBA President Anbumani Ramadoss. Chennai Flying Gravity emerged victorious, much to the delight of their fan army.

And speaking of favourites, people got to indulge in one of our all-time summer favourites, mangoes, at the Hanu Reddy Mango Festival, which began this Sunday. While the festivities started as early as 6 am, there were already almost two hundred people gathered, bright eyed and bushy tailed. As you can imagine, mangoes had pride of place, from the menu to the activities. Think mango tarts and dosa with Mango chutney, enjoyed at a beautiful community table, as well as picking your own mangoes from the orchards. And just in case you weren’t all ‘mangoed out’, the morning also included a recipe demonstration by Chef Mallika Badrinath, and no prizes for guessing the star ingredient. For those of you feeling bad that you missed out on this slice of idyllic farm life, you can sign up for it over the next two Sundays as well.

And closing out the week was the launch of Lord of the Drinks, the city’s latest watering hole. The swish set was all dressed up and ready for a killer night, as they enjoyed the indoor-outdoor space. DJ Raven was one of the star attractions, along with the ‘Iron Throne’ that everyone couldn’t get enough of. Safe to say, there were loads of selfie moments. While the cocktails were flowing, guests got to sample the new menu featuring some rather unique items like the vodka-infused prawn biriyani and Dal Makhani infused with Jack Daniels!
