Golden thrones and fitness goals: all the glitz and glam in Chennai over the week

After a nail-biting finish to the IPL, we visited the launch of a new luxury nail salon, a day of fashion dedicated to menswear and a newly-opened fitness space in the city

I think, we’re all still reeling from the IPL finals, where we found ourselves in a ‘near, but yet so far’ scenario. A nail-biting finish, as with most CSK matches, and one that we certainly won’t forget for a while to come. Thankfully, we have one last episode of Game of Thrones to distract us from our cricket woes, as we wait to find out how the nine-year-long TV saga ends. Well most likely it’ll open an all-new can of worms, but that’s a discussion for next week.

The two main events this past week saw one each for the ladies and the gentlemen. For the boys, it was The Sartorial Modernist, a men’s wear edit at Evoluzione, curated by Arnav Malhotra. Soaring temperatures meant lots of linens, complemented by mimosas, but I’ll let you look at to page 6 for all the ‘deets’. For the ladies, it was the launch of Nail Artistry, an ultra-luxury Nail Salon on TTK road. While the paparazzi went crazy over actors Tamannaah Bhatia and Kajal Aggarwal, guests ‘oohed’ and ‘ahhed’ over the super swank interiors. The gilded furniture and accents had us reaching for our camera phones, and after plonking down on a giant Gold Throne like manicure chair, I found myself thinking — who needs the Iron Throne when you can have a gold one instead. Both starlets indulged everyone their pictures, while speaking on the importance of a place like this.

This year has also seen some major additions to Chennai’s health and fitness landscape, with a more comprehensive approach to both. Revive fitness was launched at a mid-week event, with actor Arya doing the honours. Conceptualised and run by Keshav Tantry, the new space is kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment and promises a killer functional cross fit workout. The week ended with Rhapsody ’19, a charity show for the Thenmozhi Memorial Trust. The evening at Lady Andal auditorium saw everything from stand-up comedy to a fashion show, by various celebrities, to raise funds for the treatment and care of underprivileged cancer patients.
