Paloma around town: Princess diaries, fashion fever and a new sports bar in Chennai

Here's a quick rewind of the most happening events over the past week

I’ll go in reverse this week, starting at the end, with ‘Reclaim Life’, an evening hosted by Dr Raj Palaniappan and the Apollo Institude of Bariatrics, on World Anti Obesity Day. A serious subject yes, but instead of focusing on the negatives, the event focused more on taking stock, thinking a little, and allowing people to feel inspired to  make changes. I got to moderate a panel discussion that included some of the best in the business — Ajit Shetty, Shiny Surendran and Keerthana Swaminathan, who artfully navigated an intense topic, while fielding an array of questions from the audience. We had our fair share of laughs and then handed over to the professional stand-up comedian, Dr Rohini R.

The rest of the week went the fashion route starting off at the launch of a sports-themed bar ASAP. Karun Raman choreographed a fashion show in his inimitable style fusing sports elements with some signature ‘Karun’ glam. The models snaked their way across the bar armed with sporty accessories, lobbing balls at each other and generally having a good time. Once their were done exploring the space, they took up poses at the bar, painting a dramatic picture.

Next on the trail was ‘Couture and Chamomile’ at Tifara, a celebration of Indian weddings through a three-day event. Besides the latest in wedding couture, guests got to meet designers, stylists and make-up artists, and experience live demos.

The final stop was at ITC Grand Chola where the ladies of FICCI FLO had gathered for a ‘Royal Rendezvous’ with Princess Esra Jah. It was a well-tailored event, the highlight being an interview with the princess, with the right amounts of nostalgia, humourous anecdotes and inspiring stories, on her time in Hyderabad. Following the chat was a fashion showcase featuring Raw Mango and Jaipur Gems, complementing the occasion in just the right way. An elaborate high tea included Hyderabadi specials and loads of photos.
