Sunday (Monday morning for Indians) marked the end of Season 2 of Big Little Lies. The season, that began on June 9, also marked the entry of Academy award-winning actress, Meryl Streep, who played the role of Mary Louise, mother of Perry.

The seven-episode season also starred some of the A-listers of Hollywood Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz and Shailene Woodley.

Spoilers ahead!

The last episode of the season was mostly about the courtroom drama where Celest (Nicole) takes over to fight for her two kids, against Mary. Throughout the episode, we are told about Mary’s past where her son dies in a road accident, where she’s driving. Celest brings this up in the court and also says that Perry told her about his mom (Mary) blaming him for his brother’s death. During the session, Celest also plays a video of Perry hitting her that was recorded by their two twin sons. Towards the end of the episode, however, almost everything falls into place. Edd (Adam Scott) and Madeline (Resse) renew their vows, Renata (Laura) walks out on her husband, and Celest wins the case and gets the custody of her children. Jane (Shailene) gives dating a chance and Bonnie (Zoë) tells her husband she doesn’t love him anymore. It seems like everything has settled down in each of the women’s lives, with the last scene featuring the girls walking into the police station.

Is there a season 3 coming up? Earlier this year, HBO President Casey Bloys told a leading media organisation that a third season is ‘not realistic’. “I love this group of people -- I would do anything with them. But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood. I just think it's not realistic,” he reportedly said.

Executive producer David E Kelley reportedly told an organisation, “No such plan now (for another season). It's one and two, and we like our closure with season two, but that will probably be it.”

In an interview with a leading media organisation, Nicole reportedly said, “There’s no plan for it to end, specifically. This was a long shoot for us, and it was an enormous amount of work, and we’re just amazed that we can be here. Not to compare it to the first one because artistically it's a wonderful thing to take something and go and the success of the first one was so massive, so we go, 'OK, let's jump off the cliff.' But at the same time, it is its own entity and hopefully, it will be taken that way. It was definitely made with an enormous amount of love.”
