This summer, we suggest you give the run-of-the-mill art and craft, baking, and swimming classes a miss and sign your kids up for offbeat courses that will have them picking up the tricks of bird photography, building an aeroplane, creating wire jewellery and more. 


Play the field
Let your kids escape the noise and grime of the city and make their way to the Martin Farm to get a taste of farm life. This summer camp will see kids working on the farm and understanding agricultural methods. They will study fungi, set up a vermi-culture pit, build fences, plant crops, groom animals and more.

Mango mood
The alphonso mango takes centrestage in this summer camp designed to trace the roots of the most sought after variant of the king of fruits. The camp, which will be held in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, where the mango is harvested, will involve mango tasting and picking by the participants. Accommodation will be at a homestay on the beach.

Table talk
KydzAdda’s dining etiquette workshop is a great way to equip kids with some new and useful skills over the summer. The two-hour workshop will cover topics like table manners, the right way to use cutlery and silverware, how to set a table, posture and conversation. Into the wild
The birdwatching and photography workshop by The Outback Experience will be held at the Outback Farm and Homestay — an idyllic location with a lake and open green spaces. Conducted by award-winning wildlife photographer, Phillip Ross, kids will be taught to capture images of birds in flight, deal with tricky lighting situations and produce striking images of birds.

Wired in
If your kids are arty and creative, nurture their talent at the Introduction to Wire Jewelry — Summer camp by Bloom & Glow. Spread over five days, the workshop will entail techniques of using pliers and other tools to bend, cut, shape and harden the wire. Children will make earrings, necklaces and rings. Space up
The Summer Space Camp is the place to be for kids who dream of being astronauts or scientists. Organised by Genex Space and Society for Space Education Research & Development, the four-day camp features talks by scientists from ISRO, workshops on the basics of rocket building, astronomy and sky watching, as well as quizzes and field trips to museums and planetariums.

Fly high
The aeromodelling camp by Building Blocks of Life is ideal for kids who are fascinated by aeroplanes. Through the camp, participants can learn about how the aeroplane was invented, how to assemble it  and the evolution of the cockpit and wings. Kids will also investigate a plane crash and will be given an aeromodelling kit.
