If there is one icon that embodies undying courage and the experience of struggle in the most indigenous and raw form, it is Frida Kahlo. Known for her rebellious ways and awe inspiring self portraits, Kahlo was the first Mexican artist to have her painting displayed in the Louvre, Paris. Some of her famous paintings are Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, Diego and I, The Frame and The Two Fridas.
She drew her main inspiration from Mexican folk culture, and painted mostly small self-portraits which mixed elements from pre-Columbian and Catholic beliefs.
