Carla Fendi, the face of Italian fashion brand Fendi, died at 79 in Rome. She passed away on Tuesday night following a prolonged illness, informed the family. 
Carla, along with her four sisters transformed their parents' small leather workshop into a formidable fashion symbol in Italy. Though all the sisters had equal roles to play in tranforming the brand, Carla was considered the face of it. She mostly cordinated the marketing and PR side of Fendi. 
Carla's parents had started the brand in 1925 and years later the sisters expanded it into a brand that makes ready-to-wear, shoes, perfume, household goods and children's wear. She was a popular advocate of arts and culture.  She was known to have been commited to Rome and its culture while being a  patron of Two Worlds arts festival in the Umbrian city of Spoleto. 
After the news of her death broke out, tributes have been pouring through social networking sites.
