City-based handloom revivalist Sangeetha Rajesh, known for her kalamkari saris and Indo-Western outfits, is ready to start the New Year with an exhibition showcasing around 1,500 of her occasion-wear designs. The two-day solo pop-up at the Fashion Festival Hyderabad, Saptaparni, will start today . “This time, I wanted to get more of my partywear designs and not just saris and dresses made from kalamkari,” says the 42-year-old designer, who owns Sangeetha Studio. Although her signature saris will very much be a part of the show, her loyalists can also expect chic Indo-Western ensembles in kalamkari blended with tussar, Kota and raw silk. This is the first edition of this exhibition.

The silhouettes include gowns that are easy fits, full-sleeved and ankle-length — perfect for winter. “Apart from the colour palette of indigo blue and amber red, you can also choose from various shades of neon,” shares the self-taught designer, who has more than 4.5 lakh followers on her Facebook page. The designer who started working with kalamkari in 2014, first obtains her raw fabric from Kota and gives her sketches to artisans who then work on the entire process from scratch. Her party-wear repertoire for the pop-up this weekend also includes lehengas and anarkalis in silk sourced from Benaras, which will have appliqué work, studded with Swarovski and pearl.

The biggest draw this time, however, are her ready-to-wear blouses and crop tops that are size inclusive, ranging from small to double XL. “For every size, they have different styles like boat-necks, cold shoulders with trendy bell and butterfly sleeves,” says Sangeetha, adding that they will be available in zari work and netted styles.
