The annual Madras Couture Fashion Week has built a reputation for introducing the city’s fashion circuit to up and coming designers. Into its sixth season, the two-day gala organised by Jupiter Events will showcase bespoke creations from 16 designers, all of whom are from Chennai with exception to the brand Indar from Sri Lanka. “The themed collections that are being presented are focussed on wedding couture and trousseau,” says Satish Jupiter, the organiser of the show.

The season’s list of debut designers includes Kajal Agarwal who brings her Autumn/Winter collection Sunny Silhouettes featuring ethnic and Indo-western wear. Using a range of fabrics like khadi, matka silk, georgette, chiffon, and organza, the collection includes stonework and ruffle detailing.

Florence Esther Rani’s bridal collection is heavy on the detailing with ruffles, oversized bows and colourful floral prints. Look out her brand, Thorkal’s showstopper piece — a can-can lehenga sari paired with a plunging-neck crop top. “This silk organza piece will be donned by former Big Boss contestant Yashika Aannand.”

Another designer making her runway debut is Rubeena Afroz. Specialising in trousseau, the city-based entrepreneur taps into her day-to-day experience with brides to create a heritage-inspired line. Showing 10 designs in a colour palette of red and maroon, the highlight from the collection of red and black pattu sari with applique work and ruffles.

The invite-only event is on today and tomorrow. At The Hilton. 7 pm onwards.
