Unapologetically individualistic’ is how jewellery designer Suhani Pittie describes her line on Instagram and time and again, she has lived up to that description. The queen of red carpet fashion, Suhani, recently launched a new destination wedding collection on her label’s anniversary and she invited us to get a glimpse of it. For The Mogra Muse, she has chosen the same flower as inspiration because she likes it when they adorn the loosely tied bun of a bride. When we meet Suhani at her newly spruced up Banjara Hills store, she informs, “This collection is derived from the simple beauty of nature, which we often tend to miss.” Of course, it is also an ode to the Hyderabadi brides, who use this fragrant white flower and the buds in abundance during the wedding. “I thought why don’t we give them something that will last forever in a shape that they are so familiar with,” says the designer, whose jewellery has found a pride of place in the wardrobes of Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor.

Recently, international pop star Raja Kumari wore statement accessories from The Mogra Muse during her maiden concert in the city. “Raja Kumari is very familiar with our work. She is so rooted in the culture yet so adept at adding an international twist to her music. That’s exactly what we do, so it was the perfect juxtaposition,” said the designer, listed among the top 10 inventive jewellery designers by the World Gold Council.

The collection features ear cuffs with motifs of blossoming mogra buds, lightweight gold-toned twist drop earrings with hand-painted ice blue lilies, avant-garde collar neckpieces with orange lily replicas and bud flutes. One can also spot mogra bud detail set against a sculpted band. The surprisingly lightweight maangtikas and hathphools are exquisite and will easily make any bride the cynosure if they opt for it. We were told that for these designs, the base metal remains copper with 22-carat gold plating and are, at times, studded with tanzanites, emeralds and pearls. Ear cuffs have always been her signature and this time too, she has an array of them — from minimal crest ear buttons to dramatic bud flute cuffs and those with pearl drop pendants. “Just pull your hair back and dazzle everyone with these cuffs,” says Suhani, giving us a styling tip as she signs off.
