Luxury brand Goulian Finch launches exquisite pocket squares

Though only about a year-old, indigenous high-end men's fashion accessory brand Goulian Finch has earned quite a renown as makers of exquisite and elegant handwoven pocket squares. 

Co-founded by Gunjan Aggarwal and Bejoy Suri this online brand creates wonders in handwoven mulberry silk and offers offbeat pocket squares made in collaboration with Benarasi weavers, thereby melding ancient patters and traditions with modern sartorial choices.

Besides presenting an eclectic line of luxury pocket squares, they also aim at reviving the traditional Benarasi handloom weaving art-form and assert a place for Indian textile in luxury fashion. "The value of any product is created in the market when the creator believes in its worth, which is why, every pocket square produced is a reflection of a weaver’s vision and the idea of how beauty can be hand-woven in a piece of cloth," tells Gunjan Aggarwal.

Hence the inspirations behind their collection include delving deep into the ancient texts to rediscover how gold and silver threads were woven into the fabrics made for novelty through unparalleled craftsmanship of the weavers of Benaras, who have a rich history of traditional weaving.

The owners let us know that it took the designer and team of weavers almost three years to hand-weave a 16x16 inch piece with small motifs on a traditional loom meant for weaving a sari. The best quality of mulberry silk cloth is used to achieve the rich historic Banarasi finish, and the ultimate luxurious suchi (gold) zari (thread) is used to create the intricate weaves of the pocket squares, the price of which starts from Rs 12,000.

In their latest collection of pocket squares, each motif tells a story personifying the history of Banaras and inspired by the Ragas of Hindi music.

Asaa the Gouldian Finch Bird represents the free soul while Hamir, The boat is a homage to the classic and simple ride of Ganga river, which flows through Benaras, representing a journey, adventure & exploration to the far and beyond. Kafi, the Bodhi Tree motif represents an epitome of Benaras, a transformation of Siddhartha to Buddha, a tree of enlightenment.
