The art, heritage and craftsmanship of Rajasthan is unparalleled, and driving this point home is the label Sangeeta Boochra, whose parent company Silver Centrre has a history of over 120 years. Set up in 1897 by Seth Kistoor Chand Boochra as a silver manufacturing unit, the business grew into a jewellery brand when it was taken up his son Lalit Kumar Boochra in 1961, with multiple labels under its umbrella. It’s no wonder then, that Sangeeta Boochra, named after its founder, is worn by everyone from Janhvi Kapoor to Aditi Rao Hydari and Madhuri Dixit.

Though born in 1994, the label  (one of the company’s most recognised) was launched in Bengaluru only last week. With 40 stores across India and around the world, the aesthetic of the brand is a clever balance between ethnic and contemporary designs. “The jewellery is inspired by different parts of India, for instance there are necklaces inspired by Rajasthan, bangles by Tamil Nadu, earrings by Madhya Pradesh and so on. One of our highlights is a line of Kashmiri tribal pieces that use coloured stones and glass,” shares Abhineet Boochra, the son of Sangeeta. Made from 925 silver, the designer also incorporates precious and semi-precious stones, such as rubies, emeralds, tourmalines and pearls, into the designs.

Besides their own creations, they also restore vintage silver jewellery sourced from clients and collectors.
Set across two floors, the Bengaluru store boasts Rajasthan-style interiors with traditional motifs. “The jewellery stands and backdrops are all handmade by Rajasthani artisans,” shares Abhineet. Bengalureans can expect to shop for the brand’s tribal and vintage jewellery, along with designs modeled around traditional jewellery from Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. “There is also a wide range of modern and contemporary chokers, brooches, nose pins, belts, maang tikas and more, with gemstones,” he adds.

Post the Bengaluru launch, Sangeeta Boochra is all set to open its doors in Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata and Galle, Sri Lanka, in the next three months.
