Minimalism is the theme of Rareism’s A/W’19 collection. Not that the brand, which launched its store in Chennai a month ago, has completely done away with the use of self prints and abstract motifs in its apparel lines, but that this collection is very singular in its focus: Showcase garments that maximise on the label’s oeuvre of sharp tailoring.
Inspired by clean lines and geometry, the collection sticks to the wardrobe classics — dresses, tops, overlays, trousers, skirts and shorts. “Our design philosophy is not to reinvent classic silhouettes but to reimagine them,” explains Akshika Poddar, creative director of Rareism.

A mood board inspired by muted, earthy tones of brown, green, purple, blue and grey, the interlude from the everyday, mundane contours come in the form of varying ensemble lengths, draping, panels and surface techniques. “Women don’t invest in specific wardrobes, anymore. This generation, especially, is looking for apparel that can transition between day to night or between work casuals and brunch.” Look out for experimental sleeves, asymmetrical hemlines, interesting necklines, all featuring neon highlights in green, pink, orange and lavender, paired with smatterings of embroidery on the collars, sleeves and even the hang tags.

With 60 styles in cotton, linen and cotton blend now taking up rack space at their store in VR Mall, the six-month-old brand is already well into their production with their next two collections — Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2020. An experiment with different fabrics, these new lines promise an extensive array of silhouettes, primarily featuring denim.
