Designer Swapna Anumolu, who helms the city-based Label Mishru, made her debut on the runway at the August edition of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018. Then there were more turning points! Swapna went international with internet sensation Rupi Kaur picking one of her stunning ensembles.
“That was the biggest surprise of the year,” says the Hyderabadi, visibly excited, adding, “She had bought the outfit in Delhi which was sent to us for alterations on her name. I had an inkling but wasn’t sure until I saw her wear it for a performance in New York. I distinctly remember the moment when I saw the video of her act; it was beautiful,” says the 29-year-old, as she recalls the morning when she woke up to the news. People from all over the world messaged her, complimenting the outfit. It also opened doors to Bollywood as Katrina Kaif wore her signature baby blue lehenga for a wedding event.

Apart from dressing Rupi, Swapna also exhibited Label Mishru at the Aashni + Co Wedding Show in London, Somerset House. In the last few months, she has also been stocking at multi-designer outlets in Dubai, London, New York and Dallas available internationally through our partners there. “We have dressed many brides and their families, in both the United Kingdom and the United States,” says the Hyderabadi. For the next collection, Swapna is working on a theme inspired by her memories of Hyderabad. “I have drawn inspiration from the architecture of our heritage monuments, and the perfect symmetry found in the details of these structures. You will see a combination of this symmetry with our our nature-inspired motifs in the new collection,” says the designer, whose first collection titled Supernova featuring a sleeker take to the classic lehenga, got her a thumbs up from many of her patrons. The year 2018 has been special for Swapna, as she had her first ever runway show. We ask her how she felt when the stunning Lisa Haydon with her cascading blonde hair was finalised as the showstopper for her first ever show at LFW. “We had brainstormed quite a bit about who would be that perfect girl to close our show, and it couldn’t have gotten better than Lisa” says the nature-inspired designer.
