Chakor’s pop-up brings limited edition pieces to Kochi

It is Kochi’s textile savvy crowd that motivated Nikita M to come back with the second edition of Woven Love Stories within a matter of months. Having debuted in the city during last February, this Gujarat-based entrepreneur will be presenting exquisite crafts from across  the country ranging from patan patolas to scarves made of chanderi silk at her event.“Chakor focusses on handmade apparel. However, we’re more interested in reviving the traditional colour palettes and designs instead of giving it a contemporary interpretation,” shares the NIFT alumnus, who launched the brand last year.

Betting on pattern
Fuelled by her passion towards understanding the rich textile heritage of the country, Nikita  traces her ties with the weavers all the way the back the to early 2000s. “I work directly with artisans living regions like Chhattisgarh to get my pieces designed,” explains the 34-year-old, adding that she’s trying to bring back disappearing motifs in double ikat weaves such as the elephant patterns.Apart from the silks, traditional tie and dye crafts like bandhani are also featured in Chakor’s scarves created with mul cotton. Hand embroidered blouses pieces designed to match the eclectic colour scheme of patola saris and drapes laced with silver zari forms another highlight of the exhibition. “I am working towards making handloom more accessible to customers. Chakor’s collections have been made available via Parisera, an e-commerce platform, as a part of the process,” adds the entrepreneur.
