Minnie Menon’s ‘Song of the Pearl’ collection for Diwali offers ethereal whites to pastel pinks
This pre-festive line of pearls is not the usual riot of colours

Chennai-based designer Minnie Menon has launched an intriguing limited pearl and semi-precious line. “I believe that colours impact your design and pearl appeals to a wide spectrum of choices,” says Minnie. When asked for her favourite pick from the collection, the designer blindly goes for the classic choker, the popular one. However, this is her first pearl offering.

Expect some non-spherical Barocco pearl in her collection. These pearls come in both regular and irregular shapes, showcasing ethereal whites and pinks. She handpicked them from Thailand, Manila, Myanmar and Taiwan. Recollecting her previous show, Bangkok with Love, she says, “Last year, when the consulate sent me for an event at Bangkok, the jewellery show changed my outlook as a designer. The artistic sensibilities in Thailand are unmatched and it reflects in their clothes, home decor and artefacts.”

The list does not stop with just pearls, but extends to other precious stones like Carnelian, Labradorite, Amethyst, Ross cut stone, Chalcedony, Malachite and Apatite. The designer’s fetish for pendants reflects in some rare pieces of chokers that she designed in a short span of about ten days. She also believes that pearls go with all kinds of dresses. “I’ve been burning the midnight oil and getting into the game to put in my best efforts,” she says. The pre-festive line of Minnie Menon at Hyatt Regency featured about 40 designs of earrings, necklaces and rings. They will be available at Mehta jewellery for a four-day show. The designer will also be working on her pre-Valentine collection.

`7,000 - `37,000. At Mehta Jewellery.  September 22-25, 11 am-7.30 pm
