Brands from Jaipur make their city debut at a pop-up

Entrepreneur-cum-personal stylist Disha Shah Kasliwal is putting up a pop-up for the first time in the city. The Chennai-based designer has brought a mix of home decor, apparel and kids wear. Look out for Moonwalker's night suits, Ratan's bed linen, Priya Tholia's festive collection of sharara and anarkali. "This is the first time I am curating a show in Chennai. These three brands that I have picked are all Jaipur-based. Off late there has been a lot of pop-ups happening in and around the city bringing in a lot of cultural diversity so I wanted to try my hand at it," says Disha who would be working with more designers from Indore. 

Moonwalkers

This year-old brand by Surbhi Kasliwal is all about night suits. The pants and shirts come in premium cotton and satin fabric with quirky prints. While women have goggles and penguins, kids can get their names customised along with a design of their choice. " I wanted something really comfortable for my own children because whenever I looked for nice suits they were generally holstry or synthetic material. So I wanted to make something in cotton that is an all-weather fabric" says Surbhi. They have added trousseau and bridal wear to the collection. `800 upwards. Ratan

Starting with just one table of block printing, brand Ratan is now into retail and export business. The 30-year-old brand has stores in Jaipur, Delhi, Goa, Indore, and Kolkata. They have a factory in Jaipur and are exporters to Japan, US, Europe and the Middle East. "We started off with bed linens and have expanded into apparel, home furnishing, and handmade paper," says Juhi Jain, co-owner. Expect kids apparel, quilt, bed linen, bed sheets, bed covers. They majorly work with artisans from Jaipur. "Since Chennai is a hot and humid place we wanted the people to get a feel of our cotton fabric. Priya Tholia

Priya Tholia's 12-year-old brand started off with casuals and semi-formal but gradually expanded into formal and trousseau wear. They have an outlet at Jaipur and are bringing bridal lehengas, long gowns and shararas with Jaipuri work in peach, aqua blue and green, yellow and red. "I love Anamika Khanna and Sabyasachi Mukherjee's work. Traditional designs somehow never go out of trend. Since we are new to the South we wanted to be price conscious with an affordable range, says the designer," says the designer.
