Give us the story if how you thought of the idea for eBikeGo.
I have always been involved in environmental activism, and organised many drives such as Swachh Dalhousie. These drives showed me that if a small idea can change a city, it can also change the world.

There are 28.6 crore two-wheelers on our roads, which use fossil fuel, and the EV segment is very, very small. Out of the 28.6 crore two-wheelers - approximately 3 crore two-wheelers are used for delivery purposes, and we decided to focus on the delivery eco-system, and make a difference there.

These 3 crore two-wheelers commute longer distances, as they are used for delivery purposes, and that is the reason we entered that segment, to reduce the carbon footprint.

Why do you think it is important for a company like eBikeGo in India?
Earlier, there was no one in the EV market in India. Making the change from fossil fuel to electric vehicles required a lot of adapting in terms of registration, insurance, etc.

We at eBike Go thought we will help to bridge the gap by providing ebikes on rent, therefore making adaptation to electric vehicles easier, and we have had a tremendous response.

We, at eBikeGo, provide the electric two-wheelers on rent, along with the end-to-end service, maintenance and roadside assistance along with inbuilt technology, which allows the delivery person to ride it hassle-free.

Are you planning to start this for the general public as well?
Definitely. While most start-ups begin in B2C mode, and then move to B2B, we have begun with B2B, and we want to create a strong footprint in the B2B space, and then move into the B2C space.

What are the challenges a person can face while using an ebike?
For an individual with his own electric vehicle, the challenges that can exist are breakdowns of the vehicle mid-road, not understanding the mechanics and maintenance of the vehicle, or the range of the vehicle, in terms of distance.

However, with eBikeGo, all those problems are taken care of, as we have 24x7 assistance.

Are you planning to get into other automobiles after bikes, for example, an e-car rental?
As of the moment, no. We believe that it is better to master one segment completely, so right now, our focus is only on the ebike space. In the future, however, perhaps we will explore the idea of other automobiles.

What is your long-term vision for the brand?
To achieve the target of 0.1 per cent of the 3 crore commercial two-wheeler market in India, over the period of one year, and 10 per cent of the two-wheeler market in India by 2025.

As a global citizen, I don’t want to provide this service only for India, but for the world, and I hope that we can extend our services to neighbouring countries that are also battling pollution. We hope to become the biggest, most trusted e-scooter rental service provider of India by 2023.
