WINTER EVENINGS AND warm cuppas get a new home in the city. Chai Break’s latest outing at Camac Street, styled like a garden café with the magnificent heritage mansion Galleria 1910 in the backdrop and the city right in front, brings together two vastly different experiences at this 2,400 sq ft bistro. And, you’re sure to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Taking up its count to 13 outlets in the city, the brand offers special aromatic blends of tea that are best enjoyed in an openair setup like this. Treating ourselves to a warm cup, we started with a Super Berry Herbal Tea that was served with an hourglass for perfect brewing. While the tea turned into a beautiful pinkish red potion from orange in five minutes, we did also enjoy the nip in the air. The pleasant aroma and undertones of sweet and citrusy notes can help you unwind after work at this sundowner café, which opens at 4 pm. There are other flavours as well including, paan, gulkand and jasmine, which are all highly recommended. Also, in case you prefer coffee or like your drink cold, then you must check out the range of ice teas.

The inside story

This 84-seater café makes for an ideal after-office hangout, as the menu has been designed for more in-between meal bites. “This outlet is a little different from our other outlets. It’s open-air with a lovely view of a heritage building on one side and a busy street on the other. This kind of set-up is unique. People can have a good time here, as we have amazing options in food and drinks, and also our exotic range of teas shouldn’t be missed,” says Anirudh Poddar, Co-Founder.

Dig right in

Moving on to the food menu, we sampled the crunchy and leafy Mediterranean salad, rustled up by Head Chef Tania Ghosh. The salad took care of our hunger pangs in a healthy and tasty way. In case you wish to pig out on a pizza, they have both veg and non-veg options, and we dug into a Four Toppings Pizza without a hint of guilt. The thin-crust pizza with American sweetcorn, broccoli and bell peppers and onions, made for a yummy bite. You can also customise your toppings, to suit your palate. Apart from the regular pasta and sandwich, the chef recommends the Jamaican Jerk. A spicy grilled chicken delicacy served with herb rice and roasted sweet potatoes, it scored high with its well-marinated chicken, making the meat juicy and tender.

If you are at Chai Break, you can’t leave without digging into the Monte Carlo, a heavenly dessert made of Black Forest cake, Oreo and chocolate chips, topped with a Kit-Kat bar and Gems
