The bustling 80ft Road in Koramangala gets another watering hole. Boomrang BarXsocial that opened a few weeks ago has a retro vibe. With interiors that are a combination of art deco and ’90s chic, the pub has some interesting Instagrammable spots. When we dropped by on a rainy evening, the walls were illuminated with warm yellow lighting, giving the pub a trendy yet cosy feel.

Warm beginnings
We chose a table by the window to enjoy the view of the heavy showers, and started our dinner with the Tom Kha Kai, a Thai coconut milkflavoured soup. The soup came with a generous amount of vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers and lemongrass, and was perfect for the chilly evening.

The bar's food menu has a few dishes that are named 'Treasures of Boomrang' which are the chef's signature dishes. From this section, we sampled the Namma Oor Tacos (soft ragi tacos topped with lettuce, aloo palya, cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream) and Vietnamese Lemongrass Chicken. The tacos were surprisingly delicious and light. The fresh lettuce and pico de gallo, and the mushy palya worked well with the cheese and sour cream. The Vietnamese Lemongrass Chicken was interesting. Instead of being baked in an oven, it was baked in a tandoor and this gave it a subtle smokiness.

Play of textures
From the main course, we tried the Hyderabad Kheema Khichdi. The kheema was served with a bowl of khichdi, yogurt, ghee and pickle. Stir fried with onions, tomatoes, green peas and a blend of Indian spices, the piquant kheema was comforting.

After sampling such interesting dishes, we were looking forward to dessert. The Hummingbird Cake, a banana-pineapple spice cake with cream cheese frosting, was served first. The woodiness of cinnamon was the highlight of this dessert, and the contrasting tastes and textures of banana, pineapple and cream cheese made for a great combination. However, our pick was the Coconut Cheesecake that was served with a garnish of mixed fruit salsa. The familiar coconut flavour was pronounced and the dusting of dry coconut crumbs elevated the taste, making this a winner.

Although Boomrang could easily be a go-to for alcohol and classic cocktails, it is as appealing for its well-curated food.
