A search for Greek restaurants in Bengaluru yields a handful of results, with most clubbing it with Lebanese and Arabian cuisines. But newly opened House of Troy focuses exclusively on authentic dishes from this Mediterranean nation. And since we are  fans of fresh Greek flavours, we headed there for lunch.

Done up in gold, blue and marble accents, the decor is inviting. The two-page menu at the restaurant is to the point. From their signature cocktails we tried and recommend the Carrot and Orange Mary, their version of the Bloody Mary.

Soup was the first order of business. We were served the Fasolatha, which has been christened the national food of Greece, and is a soup made of white beans, herbs and cubed vegetables. The mild flavours in this were comforting. We also had the Greek Salad, with crisp notes coming from feta and cucumber, and the fruity Orange and Fennel Salad.

The Spanakopita, spinach and feta wrapped in phyllo pastry, was a crunchy affair. Dakos, a Greek-style bruschetta, was topped with artichokes, goat’s cheese and walnuts. Another favourite was the Melitzanes Papoutsakia — sliced eggplants stuffed with lamb or veggies. The textures on this one made it a hit. Our next dish the Prawn Saganaki was a rustic preparation with tomatoes and feta. Two other small eats we loved were the Greek Style Onion Rings, that have a dill, oregano and rosemary seasoning, and the Mushroom Fritti — crumb fried button mushrooms.

Main course started with pasta. Not the most traditional Greek dish but we were served Orzo Pasta in a garlic cream sauce, unfortunately nothing to write home about. But what did impress was the Oven Roasted Chicken Thigh and the Yemista. The former was served with a citrus jus and
skordalia (potato and garlic dip), and the latter was a baked bell pepper stuffed with rice and potatoes. While we found the flavours a tad Indian, both the numbers were delicious. For dessert, we had the super crunchy and syrupy Baklava, served with pistachio ice cream and the Loukoumades, bite-sized honey-filled donut holes — a must try.

House of Troy’s menu offers authentic and traditional recipes from Greece and is a welcome
addition to the dining scene in Bengaluru.
