Ever wondered what a Lamb Gyathuk from Sikkim, a Koat Pita from Mizoram or Bhangui from Tripura would taste like? Whether you are familiar or not familiar with the North East India's cuisine, you could try out and sample these authentic dishes at the ongoing Magic of North East food festival at The LaLit Ashok Bangalore's restaurant Baluchi.

Chefs MD Seraj, Abdul Mojid Khan, Baldev, Wahid, Sohan Singh and Yunus Ansari have curated a special menu for the festival that also includes vegetarian options like Veg Gyathuk (a noodle soup similar to Lamb Gyathuk but with only vegetables), the Assamese Broccoli Khorika (Broccoli skewered on the bamboo sticks and roasted), Koat Pita (Deep fried fritters with rice flour and banana from Mirzoram), Sanathongba (A cottage cheese dish with green peas and milk from Manipur), Xaak Bhaji (Mixed greens flavored with cumin, garlic, red chilly from Assam), Panch Phoran Tarkari (A delightful mixed vegetable preparation flavored with panch phoran from Sikkim) and other such traditional foods.

Non vegetarians can sample Misa Mach Poora (A Mizoram dish cooked with shrimps, onions, coriander, peppercorns and lime juice), Lai Xaak Diyasagolir Manxo (An Assamese style mutton curry cooked with mustard leaves), Kumurat Diya Murgir Mangxo (The Assamese Chicken curry cooked with Ash Gourd) and Masor Tenga (Tangy fish curry with served with joha rice from Assam).

Desserts include Manipur's Rice Kheer made with black rice and Assam's Narikol Laddu - coconut cooked in milk.
