The Chinese dim sum tea house Yauatcha, recently launched a range of winter cocktails alongside its original set menu and it promises to hit all the right notes. Located on the fifth floor of Quest Mall, the cityscape visible through a glass panelled window of this 110-seater, Michelin-star restaurant comes as a treat for the tired eyes. With its austere lighting, asymmetric ceramics and svelte glassware, the diner has kept its interiors simple yet classy.

The gastro-hub known for offering its customers with an all-day dining experience has its menu divided into four alternatives to choose from at different timings of the day.

Our tastebuds were tanatlised by a platter of delectable dumplings and the two accompanying mixed drinks from the Winter Cocktails simply bowled us over.

“This six course set experience is a meticulously designed menu that includes Yauatcha’s signature dishes, which are popular across all the global outlets,” says Ujjal Adhikary, manager of the diner. Accompanied with the newly introduced Golden Ging and Tian Shang cocktails, this menu was served with both the veg and regular options.

Since the chilly evening called for a comforting bowl of warmth, we started off the food trail with the Asian Greens soup consisting shreds of chicken, followed by a crunchy, well-soused, mixed salad with thinly sliced lotus roots.

Soon bamboo steamers arrived in billowing clouds of steam, offering a wide variety of carefully crafted dim sums. The Pork Char Sui Bun dumplings were cooked to perfection with the Hong Kong rice paste carefully cupping the succulent, scarlet fillings. The other two varieties served included Hargau, a well-crafted prawn dim sum, and the lilac coloured Chicken and Coriander dumpling.

The entrée consisted of stir- fried chicken with Szechuan pepper corn and braised chicken with mushroom in a burnt sienna clay-pot, accompanied with a steaming bowl of aromatic jasmine rice. We enjoyed the main course while sipping on a tall glass of the light and refreshing Golden Ging cocktail made with Ballantine’s, Darjeeling tea, passion fruit and Angostura orange bitters.

The subtle mix of fruity concoction with a hint of tea didn't overpower our senses and had the right balance of bitterness. Tian Shang,  made of Gin, Vodka, Raspberry liqueur, topped with fresh raspberries and elder flower foam could be the perfect choice for those who like their drinks a bit tangy.

“All these blends have been perfected at the Ging Tea House, one of the oldest tea plantations in Darjeeling. It is the key ingredient of the Golden Ging cocktail and a part of the Supreme Taste of Yauatcha experience,” informs Adhikary.

The gastronomic journey ended with some immaculately composed desserts. We were partial towards the Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse- a velvety cocoa roll with a signature Yauatcha chocolate garnish, hiding flavours of a dark chocolate chunk. It came with a scoop of honeycomb ice-cream, topped with a crunchy hazelnut. The Red Fruit Fromage made with mascarpone mousse and red fruit compote, too, was a tempting option, served alongside a dollop of icy raspberry sorbet.
