Desi Chullah is a new kid on the block. At Garia, the 350-sq ft restaurant is offering delicacies of North India along with must-have South Indian fare and a dedicated Bengali cuisine.

The cosy eatery which is just a month old, started by Mayuree Sanyal, scores high on taste, the one thing that the owner wanted to be the highlight of the menu. The food entrepreneur says, “Though there is no dearth of restaurants in the city but not everyone can serve you dishes with authentic taste. I have personally noticed it and I wanted to fill the gap. I buy my ingredients, guide the chef and make sure what is served on the table is the best.”

All the dishes have a personal touch and it is this ingredient that makes Desi Chullah a must-visit neighbourhood restaurant. Their appetizers are something to rave about. The smokey and charred notes in the succulent fish and prawn tikka are a winner and we can certainly vouch for it. The Paneer Tikka to stood out for its achari flavour and spilling out its secret Sanyal informs that instead of marinating the cubes of paneer in the spices, she creates pockets inside the cube and fills the achari masala.

From the main course, we sampled veg pulao cooked with veggies like cauliflower and carrot. The two accompaniments, Kadhai Chicken and Mutton Roganjosh too had a homely touch. The striking factor was that they were less oily and spicy, something that most of us look for while relishing our favourite food. Sealing the deal with Tender Coconut Ice Cream we watched with piqued interest, their popular Tandoori Matkewali Chai, that attracts social media users.
