Summers in India are synonymous with mangoes. And, Kenilworth Hotel, Kolkata, has taken up the responsibility to tease your tastebuds with a spread curated with the king of fruits. Sumptuous and full of charm, Aromas and OvenFresh at the inn capture vivid flavours of the tropics with some truly special mango fare.

“We always encourage the inclusion of fresh ingredients in our cooking. Considering the heat, and that mangoes are strictly in season, we tried incorporating the fruit in our menu. We are mostly using locally sourced Himsagar, and Alphonso that has been imported,” explains Rohit Sharma, the assistant food and beverage manager of Kenilworth.

Adorned in red and Ivory, the luminescent noshery has a four-course meal to offer, complemented with an assortment of sinful desserts from OvenFresh. Mango and Manchego filled Arancini was the first refreshment to arrive alongside the Kachhe Aam ke Pakore.

While on one hand, the crispy, deep-fried rice balls filled with melt-in-mouth Manchego cheese turned out to be little cubes of sweet surprise, the latter was a playful concoction on the tanginess of raw mango, served with a piquant mint dip. Both of them proved to be fitting companions to the Chocolate Aam Lassi, which is made from exactly what it sounds like: Chocolate ice cream, fresh mango and curd. One can also opt for the Mango Chicken Lettuce Wraps — a medley of roasted pulled chicken and mango, wrapped in crisp lettuce leaves, to tuck into.

Next in the queue was the Keema Matar Chatpata with Garlic Naan. The succulent minced meat, cooked with green peas, spices and dry mango extract, served with garlic flavoured flat breads sprinkled with sesame, was a meal in itself. Those who prefer to go green can expect an aromatic portion of Kachhe Aam Ki Kofta Biryani served with a soul-soothing bowl of raita. A special commendation goes to the Yumm Mango Shake, a chilled thick blend of fresh mango purée and mango ice cream, topped with fresh mango chunks, which appeared in short tumblers, to wash the entrée down.

To end our meal, we were offered with choices of Mango ki Sakora Malai Rabri Kulfi and a delectable plate of Mango Basil Berry Cheese Cake. The latter could easily pass off as the talk of the town with its dome of mangoes, enriched with heaps of Philadelphia cheese. It stood tall in the midst of scattered bits of pastel-hued meringues, and was paired with a vibrant berry dressing, with an acidic undertaste.
