This new travel-themed cafe in Kolkata has an all-day breakfast menu with unique fusion dishes

The cafe is inspired by the Oasis song Wonderwall and wanderlust, the obsession which arises from the need to travel.

With many restaurants serving European food in Hindustan Park, diners can eat at more places than ever before. Wanderwall on Purna Das Road is inspired by two elements, 22-year-old owner Paranjay Agarwal, tells us, “One part is from the popular Oasis song Wonderwall, and the other is the need to travel excessively, which simply put is — wanderlust.” Having completed his Master's degree in Visual Communication from Symbiosis in Pune last May, he chose to start a restaurant over getting stuck in a corporate job.

While the plan was initially to start the restaurant with five friends (they eventually backed out), he decided to pursue the dream because of his love to serve delicious food to people. The newly-opened restaurant has already changed the menu for the winter; an all-day breakfast menu, it is extensive and has food for all kinds of palates. With European food being the main element, there are also American favourites like burgers and classic chicken wings. We start with Fire and Ice, a chilled mocktail made with mango juice and chilli powder; which makes it a sweet yet spicy drink. The Peachy Princess, on the other hand, is sweeter and has a refreshing flavour, we love immediately, with the first sip. A spicy Korean burger which comes next, works perfectly for brunch, with a crisply-fried chicken breast coated in Korean spices, placed in between the buns with jalapeño strips and served with fries on the side.

The dishes, which are part of the all-day menu, also has a visually appealing red Shakshuka, which is perfect, we realise as we take the first bite. The egg on top cuts through the tanginess from the tomatoes, inducing us into a lazy posture, wishing us to spend the rest of the afternoon at the café. A plate of Patatas Bravas comes next and the bacon lover in us jumps for joy. The dish resembles a cake, with four layers of bacon and potato, which are fried in egg batter to make for quite a treat, and we by now were completely stuffed! But enough to say no to a Chocolate Mousse — creamy and airy, it makes for a sweet ending to our meal.

Meal for two is Rs 1,200 plus taxes.
