With 6000 foot falls last year, we suggest that you make an early visit to the second edition of the Daawat-e-Ifthaar, the Eid food festival at Buva House, down Khader Nawaz Khan Road.

Starting today and on till Sunday, one can expect quintessential Ramadan delicacies like Kichada, mutton biryani, mutton samosas and semiya kheer - from about 25 participants. This year Shamshad Mecca the owner of Buva House and the curator of this food festival, says that they have focussed on specialities that are available only during Ramadan and also home chefs, small businesses and start-ups with signature offerings.

The Dum ka Roat definitely fits the bill. However, what has us excited is that the brand bringing it here is the famous Basha Halwa. So those who have navigated the narrow Triplicane lanes to get a bite of this delicious mithai that is smoky with charcoal heat, will get the excitement of getting a plate of the roat right in the middle of Nungambakkam.

While the spread is in time for iftar (4pm to 11pm),  and the venue has prayer rooms to facilitate breaking fast, the festival is great for those who want to just sample  this wide range of traditional muslim food under one room. Yes, that means you get paya with stringhoppers, beef biryani, paratha with chicken korma, chicken cutlets and grilled chicken and more for your main course.

Meanwhile, debuting at the festival is The Perf Ice Candy. The season is just right for these all-natural fruit juice infused ice lollies that are made from fresh handpicked ingredients. The other sweet offerings include waffles on a stick by Westfield Waffles, besides a line up of home chefs offering dishes like the homemade mango pudding, apple sherbet, bread pudding and the addictive kunafa. And it's not over till you have had the hot saffron tea in a jar! The Dum Chai is sweet and slow cooked, and works perfectly as the last word.
